Full of mid century architecture, the The Village District (formerly Cameron Village) neighborhood is adjacent to The Village District (formerly Cameron Village) Shopping Center, which has its place in history as the first shopping center built east of the Mississippi. The neighborhood was recently added to the National Register of Historic Places due to the number of 50's ranch homes that were planned as part of the mixed use area. The same plan included condos which can still be found along Daniels, Sutton, and Nichols streets and are some of the more affordable properties so close to so many amenities. The Village District is the main retail shopping area closest to Downtown and features two grocery stores, a public library, many upscale shops and services.
